Manual Therapy is a "hands-on" technique used to improve mobility in a joint or restricted soft tissues.  Manual therapy is commonly used by physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists and doctors known as osteopaths.

Manual Therapy is performed while the patient is totally relaxed.  Muscle tension restricts movement and would limit the effectiveness of the procedure.  The procedure is a "passive" one, usually performed by the therapist on the patient.
