Home exercise programs are individually designed to meet the needs of
the patient. These programs are essential in providing a complete
treatment plan to obtain maximum results. Progress obtained during
the treatment sessions needs to be maintained between treatment
sessions. The home program also aids to improve any deficits noted
and becomes an integral part of injury prevention after physical therapy
treatment is completed. Programs also consist of detailed written
instruction to allow for improved compliance and correct application of
the information.
A home program may consist of some or all of the following:
- Range of motion exercises
- Strengthening exercises
- Stretching exercises to improve flexibility
- Balance and coordination training
- Posture education and body mechanics
- Relaxation techniques
- Activities of daily living
